This event will be a fantastic opportunity to learn how to elevate your students' pop/rock musical theater performances and refine their audition repertoire.

During this workshop, we’ll dive into key topics like:

  • Choosing between mood, groove, and story songs.

  • How to find the perfect songs, listen at the micro-level, and personalize delivery.

More information about our guest, Matt Edwards:

Matt Edwards is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Musical Theatre Voice at Shenandoah Conservatory where he works with the senior class as they audition for agents and casting directors during senior showcase season. He works at the intersection of acting and voice, helping singers fine tune their technique and delivery from Golden Age to Pop/Rock. Edwards also serves on the graduate voice pedagogy faculty and is Artistic Director of the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Vocal Pedagogy Institute, a past recipient of the Van Lawrence Fellowship, and has served as a master teacher for the NATS Intern program. 

 

Former and current students have performed on American Idol, Broadway, off-Broadway, on national and international tours, on national television, cruise ships, at theme parks and in bands touring throughout the world. He is author of “So You Want to Sing Rock” and has contributed to books including “A Dictionary for the Modern Singer,” “Vocal Athlete,” “Manual of Singing Voice Rehabilitation,” “Get the Callback,” “The Voice Teacher’s Cookbook,” the CCM, Music by Women, Folk, Sacred Music, Gospel, A Cappella, Blues, and Country editions of the “So You Want to Sing” book series, and is one of the featured pedagogues in “Training Contemporary Commercial Singers.” He has written articles for the Journal of Singing, Journal of Voice, VoicePrints, American Music Teacher, The Voice, Southern Theatre, has been a Vocal Coach in Residence for Voice Council magazine, and has been honored for his contributions to the profession by VocalPedagogy.com. 

 

In high demand for his presentations, workshops, and master classes, he has presented at the National Association of Teachers of Singing National Conference, Voice Foundation Annual Symposium, Acoustical Society of America, Southeastern Theatre Conference, Musical Theatre Educators Alliance, Pan American Vocology Association, International Voice Teachers of Mix, Vocology in Practice, at universities and NATS Chapters throughout North America, and many other educational and professional organizations throughout the world.
